July 18, 2004 - Norwich, CT - Jason Knoedler singled off Joe Rodriguez to drive in Michael Cervenak with one out in the bottom of the ninth to break a 5-5 tie and send the Norwich Navigators to a 6-5 victory over the Bowie Baysox Sunday night in Eastern League action.
Rodriguez (0-2) gave up two earned runs on four hits in 1 1/3rd innings to take the loss. He walked one and struck out two in his outing as the Baysox (49-45) dropped three of four to the Navigators (49-43).
Knoedler went 4-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored to lead the Norwich offense. Cervenek was 3-for-4 with a double and drove in a run and scored a run.
Ed Rogers went 3-for-5 and scored two runs and Val Majewski hit his 13th home run off Giants top prospect Merkin Valdez driving in two runs. Majewski, fresh off playing in the All-Star Futures Game and Eastern League All-Star Game also scored two for Bowie.
Matt Palmer (2-6) picked up the win in relief after he pitched 1 2/3rd innings of scoreless baseball. Palmer gave up one hit, walked one, and struck out two batters.
The Baysox return home Monday for a doubleheader against the Reading Phillies starting at 6:05 pm. RHP Chris Piersoll is expected to start game one against Reading's Gavin Floyd. Pitchers for game two are yet to be determined.
