August 10, 2009 - Baltimore native Brandon Erbe flirted with a no-hitter in his only start last week, and the effort was enough for him to be honored as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Aug. 9. The right-hander struck out five batters in 8.0 hitless innings in New Hampshire on Thursday, Aug. 6, before being removed after 108 pitches. Erbe is the third Baysox starting pitcher to win the award this season, joining right-hander Jake Arrieta and lefty Brian Matusz. Arrieta is currently pitching at class AAA Norfolk and Matusz is pitching for the Baltimore Orioles.
Although he's missed time this season due to shoulder fatigue, Erbe has been one of the Baysox best pitchers this season. In his first season at the AA level, Erbe is 3-3 with a 2.08 ERA in nine starts with 40 strikeouts in 47.2 innings. Erbe has flirted with no-hitters before, last year he tossed six or more no-hit innings twice as a member of the Frederick Keys. On June 11, 2008, he threw a 7.0 inning, nine strikeout performance against Wilmington and on Aug. 5, 2008, he held the Salem Red Sox hitless through 6.0 innings, striking out seven and walking three.
Don't miss a moment of the action as the Baysox attempt to bring home their first Eastern League championship. Ticket packages are available now, CLICK HERE or call the Baysox ticket sales department at (301) 464-4880.
