Baysox Attempt To Set Yo-Yo World Record Tonight
« Back

May 24, 2007 - (Bowie, MD) – The Bowie Baysox, Class “AA” Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles are at it again, attempting to break another World Record! First it was tooth brushing and then it was the simultaneous whoopee cushion sit three times, now the Baysox have their eyes set on the Guinness World Record for most people simultaneously yo-yoing. The Baysox will attempt this feat on Saturday, May 26th when the Baysox take on the Altoona Curve at 7:05 pm. The first 1,500 fans (ages 6 & up) to register at the game will receive a free Baysox logo yo-yo to participate in the Record breaking event. Following the game all fans will be directed to the lower concourse of the stadium to take part in the record breaking event, where on cue fans will begin to yo-yo.

The current Guinness World Record is 432, set in Canada on June 8th, 2006. The National Record which was just recently set this year in South Carolina is 932. The Baysox have their sites set much higher than that as they will attempt to break the record with 1,500 people simultaneously yo-yoing.

This isn’t the first time the Baysox have attempted to break World Records. The Baysox attempted to set the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous Whoopee Cushion sit in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In 2003 2,557 people made a joyful noise after eclipsing the previous record of 982 people set by ICC in Birmingham, England on Jan. 15, 2003. In 2004, the Baysox attempted to set the record again on July 4th with 3,200 fans simultaneously sitting on Whoopee Cushions.

In 2005, again on July 4th, the Baysox fans in attendance at the Baysox vs. Harrisburg game pledged their allegiance to flatulence by simultaneously sitting on 4,439 Whoopee cushions deflating the current official mark of 3,790 set by the Kusatsu Elementary School in Kusatsu, Japan on October 17, 2004.

The Baysox will once again attempt to take their place in history on Baysox Yo-Yo World Record Night on Saturday, May 26th. There will also be post-game Fireworks at the event, sponsored by the U.S. Army.
