Special Delivery, Baysox Derail Curve In 11 Innings, 6-3

April 24, 2007 - (Altoona, PA) – The Baysox survived their longest game of the season thus far in 2007, holding on to beat Altoona, 6-3 in 11 innings. The Curve would get on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third when Brett Roneberg drove a single to right off of Baysox starter Chris Waters. Vic Buttler would come around to score and give the Curve an early 1-0 lead. Waters would turn in a strong outing for the Baysox going six innings, giving up only four hits and one run, while striking out four.

Kip Bouknight would be equally as good for the Curve on the mound, but the Baysox would get on the scoreboard in the fifth. Nolan Reimold would start the inning off with a lead off double and be brought around to score in the frame on a Jeff Fiorentino single to left, knotting the game up at 1-1.

The Baysox would then take a one run lead in the sixth. Paco Figueroa would get on base with a lead off single to center. He would be followed up by SS Luis Hernandez, who extended his hit streak to 11 games with a single to center, moving Figueroa to third. Val Majewski would ground into a double play in the next at bat, but Figueroa scored giving the Baysox a 2-1 lead. Bouknight would get out of the seventh, getting Oscar Salazar to ground out ending the inning. Bouknight finished the game, going seven innings giving up five hits and two runs, while striking out three.

The Curve would strike again in the seventh off of Baysox reliever Felix Romero. Brandon Chaves led off the inning with a single and then stole second base. Chaves would advance to third on an Andrew McCutchen groundout and be brought around to score on an Alex Fernandez sacrifice fly, making it 2-2. Romero would get out of the inning though getting Neil Walker to line out to second.

The score would be knotted at 2-2 through nine and then the Baysox exploded for an insurmountable four runs in the top of the 11th. Brandon Sing would lead off the inning with a single left. Bryan Bass then came in to pinch run for Sing and would reach second on a Brian Bock sacrifice bunt. Paco Figueroa then reached first in the next at bat on third baseman Neil Walker’s throwing error and Bass would reach third. Luis Hernandez came up big again in a critical situation and doubled to left, scoring both Bass and Figueroa, giving the Baysox a 4-2 lead. Curve reliever Jason Roach would then intentionally walk Val Majewski, to get to Oscar Salazar who flew out to right. Nolan Reimold would then connect again, this time a single to right, scoring Hernandez and moving Majewski to third, giving the Baysox a 5-2 lead. Majewski would then come around to score on a wild pitch with Matt Cepicky batting, giving the Baysox a 6-2 lead. Roach would get out of the inning though, getting Cepicky to ground out ending the inning. Roach took the loss for the Curve, giving up all four runs in the inning on three hits.

Freddy Deza would close out the 11th for the Baysox, but gave up a lead off triple to Randy Ruiz. Ruiz would then score on a wild pitch, but the Deza would end the game getting Chris Truby to pop out to third, then getting Dave Parrish to ground into a double play, cementing the 6-3 win for the Baysox.

Deza picked up his first win of the season, improving his record to (1-1). The Curve and Baysox will play the third game of their four-game series Wednesday night at 6:35 PM at Blair County Ballpark. RHP Radhames Liz (1-1, 5.54), will get the start for the Baysox. Altoona will counter with RHP, Luis Munoz (1-0, 3.46).
