April 18, 2007 - (Bowie, MD) – The rubber match of the first series between the Baysox and Curve in 2007 saw a pitcher’s duel between Baysox starter Craig Anderson and Curve starter Kip Bouknight. Anderson’s only blemish over the first two innings was a lead-off single by Vic Buttler in the first. But Anderson was equally matched by Curve starter Kip Bouknight. The Curve starter turned in an impressive seven innings pitched, giving up only one hit, no runs, with five walks and three K’s. Anderson finished the game, turning in six innings of five hit ball, with one walk, and one strikeout.
All three Curve runs came in the eighth inning off of Baysox reliever Rommie Lewis, who spelled Anderson from the game. Vic Buttler slapped a single to left scoring Taber Lee for the first run of the ballgame, giving Altoona a 1-0 lead. Randy Ruiz would then connect on a two-RBI single to right, scoring Buttler and Brandon Chaves from second, giving the Curve a 3-0 advantage.
The Baysox only had two hits on the night. The first came in the third inning when catcher Ryan Hubele connected on a single to left. Shortstop Luis Hernandez was responsible for the second hit of the night for the Baysox in the bottom of the ninth, with a single through the hole at second. Hernandez advanced to second and Paco Figueroa advanced to third on a wild pitch by Dave Davidson in the very next at bat. Jeff Fiorentino then grounded out for the second out of the ninth, but Figueroa came across for the lone Baysox run of the night. Nolan Reimold then grounded out to end the ballgame, giving the Curve the rubber match of the three-game series, 3-1.
Lewis took the loss for the Baysox dropping his record to (0-1) on the season. Bouknight, who had a fabulous outing, notched his first win of the season (1-0). Dave Davidson who gave up the only Baysox run of the game, picked up the save his first of the season. The loss drops Bowie’s record to 6-6 on the season, while the Curve moved to one game below .500 at 4-5.
The Baysox now embark on an eight-game road trip, taking on the Erie SeaWolves for four games, then on to Altoona for four. LHP Chris Waters (0-2) will take the mound for the Baysox tomorrow, countering against LHP Jon Connolly for Erie. The Baysox next return home for a three game homestand next Friday against Erie.
