November 9, 2006 - Danny Muegge and five relievers combined on a five-hitter as Mesa blanked visiting Grand Canyon, 4-0, on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old right-hander opened the game with four scoreless innings, striking out two. Muegge went 9-9 for Double-A Jacksonville this season.
Troy Patton, Blake McGinley, Carmen Pignatiello, Mark McLemore and Clay Rapada each tossed an inning in relief. Patton (2-0), who finished the season with Double-A Corpus Christi, picked up the win with a perfect fifth.
The shutout lowered the Solar Sox's team ERA to 4.10, good for second in the Arizona Fall League.
Mesa (13-12) scored all the runs it needed in the first, when Michel Abreu singled home Brooks Conrad. The Solar Sox picked up some insurance on Conrad's solo shot in the sixth and A.J. Ellis' two-run blast in the seventh.
Baysox Dustin Yount and Bryan Bass were a combined 0-for-5 at the plate in the loss.
Pirates prospect Josh Shortslef (0-1) started and took the loss for the Rafters (12-13), who have dropped five straight.
Shortslef gave up one run on three hits and two walks over three frames for Grand Canyon, which remains tied with the Peoria Saguaros atop the AFL West.
