October 14, 2006 - Darrell Rasner and three relievers combined on a six-hitter as the visiting Saguaros whitewashed Grand Canyon, 5-0, for their third straight win on Thursday.
The Saguaros (5-4) entered the game with a 7.32 ERA but recorded their Arizona Fall League-leading second shutout.
Peoria combined for 14 strikeouts while issuing only two walks. Rasner yielded two doubles and a single while fanning four in four innings. Fellow Yankees farmhand Sean Henn (2-0) gave up a sixth-inning single to Troy Tulowitzki while whiffing five in three frames.
Eric Haberer pitched around a single and a walk in the eighth before Leonel Rosales worked around a single and a walk in the ninth as the Rafters (5-3) suffered their third straight loss after opening the season with five wins.
The Saguaros ran out to a 4-0 lead in the opening frame and chased Grand Canyon starter Dave Davidson (0-1). Nick Stavinoha belted an RBI single and Chase Headley's forceout plated Eric Duncan. Davidson left after issuing consecutive bases-loaded walks to Josh Whitesell and Juan Ciriaco.
Whitesell had a pair of doubles, including one that plated Headley in the third.
Duncan and Brett Gardner chipped in two hits apiece for Peoria.
The Rafters used six relievers after Davidson's early departure. Brian Finch allowed one run on four hits in 2 1/3 innings and Jesse Chavez tossed two scoreless frames.
Tulowitzki went 2-for-4 for Grand Canyon.
