August 26, 2006 - The Bowie Baysox played host to the taping of the Discovery Channel's #1 rated show, "Dirty Jobs" on Friday. Baltimore native and host of "Dirty Jobs" Mike Rowe spent his day at Prince George's Stadium, doing various "Dirty" tasks for an upcoming episode taping.
Rowe and his production crew started their day off working with Head Groundskeeper Matt Parrott, mowing the field, dragging the warning track and infield and watering the infield. Rowe was then put to the "dirtiest" of tests participating in sliding drills with Baysox bullpen catcher Jason Maxey and after a few valiant attempts, Rowe dressed head-to-toe in Baysox gear including baseball pants and cleats got himself pretty "dirty". Rowe then got to meet-and-greet fans when the gates opened before getting himself ready for a ceremonial first pitch.
The "Dirty Jobs" host then signed some more autographs before doing the fourth inning drag with the grounds crew in the first half of Friday's twinbill with New Hampshire. Rowe then made his rounds in the dugout hanging out and visiting with some of the Baysox players. Before the start of the second game, Rowe a former member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra dazzled the packed crowd of 9,105 with a special rendition of the National Anthem. Rowe then shot a few commercials in the Press Box advertising "Dirty Jobs" with his parents who were on hand for the show taping.
The night was capped off for the fans by Rowe thanking them for their support of "Dirty Jobs" before kicking of the night's postgame Fireworks display, sponsored by Safeway. But before turning off the lights for the Fireworks, a couple of Baysox players had it in their minds to get Rowe a little more "dirty" and wet, before the Fireworks. Rowe got the proverbial Gatorade shower, when he was hit with a cooler of water by Jason Maxey and Jeff Fiorentino. Rowe then thanked them and the Fireworks exploded into the sky.
Rowe completed his night in the Baysox clubhouse, being introduced to the dos and donts of washing the players uniforms and personals as well as giving Noah Hall's cleats a good scrubbing. After the long and grueling day, Rowe was looking for a little relief and found it in the form of a nice hot whirlpool dip. It was a very therapeutic event for Rowe as the cameras stopped rolling on Rowe and the Rubber Ducks in the Training Room.
Friday's taping of "Dirty Jobs" will likely air on the Discovery Channel sometime in November. Keep checking back for further updates. View Complete "Dirty Jobs" Photo Gallery
