AI All-Stars Upset by team WPGC, 11-8


The Allen Iverson Celebrity Softball Classic All-Stars were upset for the first time ever by team WPGC 11-8 in the annual Allen Iverson Celebrity Softball Classic. Team WPGC was propelled by home runs in the second and third innings and score two runs in the first, second and third innings of the game.

The Allen Iverson All-Stars were led on the field by Carmello Anthony, AI, and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Patty LaBelle kicked things off with a rendition of the National Anthem before play began in the game.

2006 ALLEN IVERSON CELEBRITY CLASSIC EVENT RECAP
July 15, 2006 - The Allen Iverson All-Stars won the 2006 Allen Iverson Celebrity Softball Classic, defeating the WPGC All-Stars, 7-3, at Prince George’s Stadium. Recording artist Nelly slammed a solo home run in the top of the first, helping the A.I. squad to an early 2-0 lead. With a hit in the top of the fourth, Allen Iverson helped his team extend their lead to 5-2. They eventually went on to win 7-3.

8,445 fans packed Prince George’s Stadium and ticket proceeds went to Iverson’s Crossover Foundation. Among the stars who came out were Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson, Stephen Jackson of the Indiana Pacers, 112, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Nate Burleson, cornerback DeAngelo Hall of the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers’ tight end Vernon Davis and Marques Hagans of the St. Louis Rams. Iverson ended the evening’s festivities by thanking the crowd for coming out and helping a good cause.
